DESCRIPTION: Length up to 22mm. A gingery-brown beetle almost of the typical longhorn shape. The key identification features are the rear of the abdomen that pokes out from beyond the rear of the elytra, the typical 'long horns' (antennae) and the general flattish appearance. The elytra have 2 to 3 parallel ridges and are slightly hairy. BEHAVIOUR: Lays eggs in dead coniferous wood. Mating takes place at sunset. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout and usually located on stumps where it aids the decomposition process. HABITAT: Wooded areas mainly with Scots Pine and Norway Spruce. PERIOD: June to August. |
